The Victorian Curriculum F–10 is a statement of the purpose of schooling. It defines what all students have the opportunity to learn as a result of their schooling, set out as a series of learning progressions. Enabling students’ progress along this learning continuum is the fundamental role of teachers and schools.
Achievement standards and content descriptions are at the core of the curriculum:
- Achievement standards describe what students are typically able to understand and do on completion of a curriculum level or band. They form the basis of assessment and reporting.
- Content descriptions at each curriculum level or band describe what teachers need to teach and students need to learn to meet the achievement standard for the level or band.
The Victorian Curriculum F–10 is structured as a developmentally sequenced continuum of learning that can be used with all students, in any school. It includes curriculum levels and bands from Foundation Level A through to Level 10.
It has 8 learning areas (and their disciplines) and 4 capabilities, which are collectively known as the curriculum areas. It also includes 6 curriculum components – 3 cross-curriculum priorities and 3 foundational skills – that enrich learning across the curriculum areas.

Teaching and assessing
The Victorian Curriculum F–10 is mandated to be taught in all Victorian government and Catholic schools. Student achievement must be reported against the achievement standards. Schools must deliver the Victorian Curriculum F–10 guided by their sector’s policies and guidelines.
The Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0 is being implemented progressively and the original Victorian Curriculum F–10 (Version 1.0) is being decommissioned. Most Version 2.0 curriculums are being implemented in schools now, with some curriculums still to come. See the timeline below for more information.
